Unleash your creativity at the Central Hawke's Bay A&P Show Homecraft Competitions!

Get creative and show off your crafty side at the Central Hawke’s Bay A&P Show! The Homecraft section is open to children, secondary school students and adults, with classes celebrating imagination, recycling, rural life and traditional wool crafts.

There is no entry fee. All entries must be suitable for display and must be non-perishable.

Children 0–6 Years

• Class 9000 – Decorate a Gumboot
  Turn an ordinary gumboot into something extraordinary! Decorate a gumboot using paint, ribbons, fabric, buttons, recycled materials or any other creative embellishments. Let your imagination run wild and create a colourful, fun and original design.

• Class 9001 – Farmyard Friends
  Create your favourite farmyard animal using craft materials. It could be a sheep, cow, pig, chicken, horse or any other farmyard friend. Use your imagination and materials such as cardboard, wool, fabric, paper, recycled packaging or other craft supplies to bring your animal to life.

Children 7–13 Years

• Class 9002 – Decorate a Gumboot
  Give an old gumboot a new lease on life! Use colour, patterns, paint and embellishments to create a unique design. Your creation can be funny, colourful, inspired by nature or reflect life in Central Hawke’s Bay. Judges will be looking for creativity, originality and effort.

• Class 9003 – Junk to Treasure
  One person's rubbish is another person's treasure! Take everyday recycled or discarded materials and transform them into something creative, decorative or useful. Think cardboard creations, bottle-top sculptures, recycled robots, model vehicles or something completely original. The challenge is to see what you can create from materials that might otherwise be thrown away.

Secondary School Students

• Class 9004 – Junk to Treasure
  Put your creativity and resourcefulness to the test. Transform recycled or discarded materials into an original piece of art, a decorative feature or a useful item. Think outside the box and show how everyday items can be repurposed into something impressive. Entries will be judged on originality, creative use of materials and overall presentation.

• Class 9005 – Country Creations
  Celebrate rural life and the countryside through your own handmade creation. Your entry could be inspired by farming, farm animals, tractors, the landscape, country living or the natural environment. Use any suitable craft materials to create something that reflects the character of rural New Zealand. Let your imagination and personal style shine through.

Open – Adults

• Class 9006 – Junk to Treasure
  Show us what you can do with recycled and repurposed materials! Transform discarded items into something beautiful, practical, quirky or unexpected. From creative sculptures and home décor to useful household items, the possibilities are endless. Entries should demonstrate originality, thoughtful use of materials and an appealing finished result.

• Class 9007 – Country Creations
  Bring the spirit of the countryside to the Homecraft display. Create a handmade item inspired by rural life, farming, farm animals, the land or the New Zealand countryside. Entries may be decorative, artistic or practical, using your choice of suitable materials. Celebrate country living and showcase your creativity and craftsmanship.

• Class 9008 – Woolly Wonders – Knitting, Crochet and Other Wool Crafts
  Celebrate the versatility of wool and traditional craft skills. Entries may include knitting, crochet, wool weaving, felted creations, wool embroidery or other handmade items featuring wool or fleece. From practical pieces to decorative creations, this class is an opportunity to showcase your skills, creativity and workmanship.

A Few Things to Remember

• There is no entry fee for the Homecraft section.

• Entries must be non-perishable and suitable for display.

• Please enter your creation in the correct age group and class.
